Microsoft Retail Stores: We’re hiring!
You may have heard about our plans to open Microsoft retail stores in cities around the world. Well, I know a lot of you have heard because the JobsBloggers have been getting peppered with questions. :)
We’ve recently announced our first two stores in Scottsdale, AZ and Mission Viejo, CA. And we’re now hiring!
We’re looking for new store employees who love technology and teaching and helping others. In particular, we’re looking for people with technical backgrounds who can help customers choose the best Microsoft products and services for their needs and troubleshoot any technical issue they may have.
You can find more information at http://microsoft.talentrecruiting.com. This is a special page set up just for the current store openings in partnership with an outside firm who is recruiting on behalf of Microsoft. Store employees will work directly for Microsoft.
Our other store locations have not been announced yet, but as soon as we know more, we’ll update it here and add the jobs to the website.
Happy hunting!
Gretchen
PS - 8/21: We're hiring for more than just store jobs ... Check out http://microsoft.com/careers to explore even more Microsoft opportunities anywhere in the world.
8/25: Over on Microspotting, meet the Store Manager for our Scottsdale location.

Will you be offering repairs in the stores or just advice? Seems odd for someone to walk in with a computer, you tell them what is wrong with it and then they have to go someplace else.

So what is Microsoft going to sell in a Microsoft store? I can't believe that people will actually come to look at a boxed copy of word or windows 7. Microsoft doesn't do hardware except for xbox and zune, so will there be HP (or any other manufacturer) laptops or desktops for sale and Microsoft will get a larger cut than normal? Just wondering how this is going to be profitable.

I know, you could sell Apple hardware with Microsoft Windows 7 running in bootcamp. LOL

Hi everyone - We don't have info on other store locations, but we'll get the word out when we do.
John - Re: offering repairs ... Yes! In-store service is a key part of what we'll offer.
Tyler - Re: what the stores will sell .. We aren't sharing specifics yet - but items include what you would expect: laptops and accessories, Xbox gaming consoles & accessories, Windows Phones, Zunes and first and third party software titles.

It seems an interesting concept. Out of curiosity, how does Microsoft intend to make money from this venture if it works by employees working in an advisory capacity?
